Monthly Report
Canton of Mons Draconis
November, AS XXXIII (1998)
On October 24, AS XXXIII (1998), the Incipient Canton of Mons Draconis joined the rest of the Barony to celebrate the Anniversary of our Barony. Presentations were made not only to Their Excellencies, Thurston and Allaine, Baron and Baroness of Dreiburgen, but also to Their Majesties, Ivan IV and Anastasiia, King and Queen of Caid, and Their Highnesses, al-tomuki and Luciana, Crown Prince and Princess of Caid. In turn, Their Majesties, with the blessings of Their Excellencies, chose that time to lift the incipient status of our Canton. There was great rejoicing.
Also during the Baronial Anniversary, Mons Draconis conducted the Arts Raffle and raised $243.00 for the Baronial coffers. All funds collected were double counted and turned over to the Baronial Exchequer.
The November meeting of the Canton was called to order at 7:30 on November 4, at the Mira Loma Round Table Pizza. The officer reports delivered by the Seneschal, the Herald, Arts and Sciences, Chatelaine, Exchequer, and, in absentia, the Marshal.
Officer Reports- Our Marshal will be resigning his post as soon as a replacement can be found since he is going to Japan to live for two years. Lord Carolus von Eulenhorst volunteered for this office, and gave the Seneschal his written statement of willingness to serve. He was asked to contact His Lordship Paganus, Baronial Marshal.
- The Exchequer lead a discussion of the future of our account which culminated in a motion, seconded and passed to leave our funds with the Baronial funds. Exchequer will be contacting Lord Steffan, the Baronial Exchequer.
- The Chatelaine welcomed two new people who came to join us and learn more about the SCA. They were given written information about the Society in general and our Barony and Canton and events that take place in this area.
Our upcoming events, the Van Avery Demo and our own Anniversary were discussed. Lady Christina Ebonstein will function as steward of the Van Avery Demo. She will be contacting the school when the holidays are over.
Lord Finnr is our steward for Anniversary next year. He gave a report of his preliminary researches for a site, probable costs, and what type of contests we can expect. Baroness Ulrike has moved from Anniversary steward to Anniversary Feast steward.
Also discussed at the meeting was the problem of a banner and the possibility of changing the locale of our meetings. Since the meetings will be changing to the third Wednesday of the month in January, our current meeting place may not be available. The new "Dragon's Talking Stick" was a great success.
Next Thursday Lord Finnr and Lady Valynde will be hosting a Dragon's Tale to start about 7pm. Drinks will be provided, guests may bring a snack to share.
It was also agreed that the December meeting would be held at the home of the Seneschal, Lady Marie, at 3370 Orange Street, Riverside. It will be a holiday/period pot luck to celebrate the December season.
